Its been a while since we posted on our GARY MEMORIAL CHAPEL’s blog. We have been busy doing some updates to our website and of course we are continuing to serve the families who have entrusted their loved ones in our care.

We wanted to share with you an exciting new leadership position one of our funeral directors has taken on. Attached is a recent intro video blog done by our Funeral Director Lori Diaz. On this blog it is our privilege and honor to introduce you to our Directress Lori Diaz who is a Licensed Funeral Director and Licensed Insurance Agent in the State of Ohio. Lori joined GMC after she served her 2 year Funeral Director’s Apprenticeship along side Master Funeral Director and Embalmer David Gary where she learned many valuable tools to assist and grow in her professional career at GARY MEMORIAL CHAPEL. Lori has a unique ability in creating meaningful Celebration of Life Services for the families that select us to serve during an at need arrangement. The families have learned to appreciate her empathy and eye for detail. Her passion for people is what has motivated her to chose this career path and is very evident in how she deals individually with families.

Lori graduated from The Ohio State University with a B.A. in Communication and minor in Sociology in 1998. She is a proud OSU Alumni. After college, she attended Keller Graduate School of Management of DeVry University and received her Masters in Business Administration in 2005 and Masters in Project Management in 2007. Lori currently handles the day to day operation of the funeral home and gets to put in practice the various skills she’s acquired along the way. Lori is an avid learner and loves marketing.

Lori is active in several community organizations and is a member of the Buckeye State Funeral Director’s and Embalmer’s Association and African-American Funeral Professionals of Central Ohio (AAFPCO). Lori is proud to be one of the founding members of the 100 Black Women of Central Ohio.

She and her family attend Ephesus Seventh-day Adventist Church where she has served over the years in a variety of different positions. She has been the Communications Director, a Deaconess, a Lower Division Sabbath School Teacher, Earliteen Sabbath School Teacher, Choir Member, Media Services Coordinator and currently serves as the Stewardship Director.

Lori is happily married to Michael and together they have two beautiful daughters, Mikayla and Kyah. In her spare time, Lori enjoys to read, roller skate, exercise and travel. When Lori isn’t at the funeral home she is cherishing time spent with those she loves.

You Are ALWAYS a Funeral Director – Toby Sutton

We, at GARY MEMORIAL CHAPEL, know all too well about reputation and character. This is the foundation and core of our existence. We believe that we represent our establishment in everything we do. Some view being a Funeral Director as simply a “profession”. We (the Funeral Directors at GARY MEMORIAL CHAPEL) view being a Funeral Director as a “calling.” The difference in views indicates that we realize that someone is always watching and that you must always exhibit the highest level of integrity, honor and dignity even when you aren’t directly servicing a family.

This article written below by Toby Sutton, reminds us all too often of those who do not take this “calling” to heart and thus giving the funeral industry a bad reputation. Grief is not about forgetting

I was reading an article that was talking about grief. One writer stated that grief is not about forgetting but about remembering. This rings true in funeral service.

The Funeral Director is there to help those handling the burden of grief. Planning a Celebration of Life is about remembering all the wonderful things that persons life meant.

Hello

We would like to thank you for visiting our blog. We know it may seem crazy that a funeral home would have a blog. We do not think so at all. In fact, we are excited about it. We feel this will allow us to share our experiences and tell what we have learned in this funeral industry.

We have several services and after each one, it never fails that one of our employees comments on how nice the service was or say “they seemed like they were a really neat individual.”

It is our intention for this site to be able to be used to talk about the Celebration of Life Services in a forum where we can talk about what we learned.

We recognize that life is precious and should be honored. Every life deserves to be celebrated. Every life has a legacy and fond memories to cherish. We pride our self on service and we want our families to find value in honoring their loved ones.
